Lady Jinx's Jewelry - Hiatus

...yes, again.

I'm so sorry to all of you who follow, buy, look, windows shop and are curious about my pretties I create. But ... I have to put Lady Jinx's Jewelry on a hiatus, and it will be for awhile. I've put the Etsy shop on Vacation Mode. There's a few reasons;

- The Etsy bill has become so high, (it's probably $30 due to late charges, last I checked, it might be lower) I can barely keep up with the payments since my budget is very low. I haven't had the funds to buy new wire or even crimps.

- I haven't done any designing in months, but I will sketch designs and get ready for when the shop does return.

I don't want to end up closing down my business, well this isn't a business, this is a hobby, I just enjoy selling my pretties to make people feel happy and beautiful. I just feel discouraged, with everything else going on lately .. college situation, still no job (it'll be a year coming this October that I've been without a job for two years, that is, if I'm still unemployed. God I hope not) and bird expenses.

I'll still post, update the facebook fanpage and group, twitter followers, myspace friends and every where else Lady Jinx's Jewelry is located. This is a pity post, and it may seem like it. It's just letting you all know my jewelry designing budget is pretty low ... almost on empty, and I need the funds for more important purchases.

I still continue to make customs and personal pieces for myself and family. Customs will have to go through another way. Possibly just messaging me via Etsy conversation or through e-mail if someone wants a custom. A

At least on vacation mode, the bill won't keep climbing as I won't have anything active, right? Or.. maybe not? Sigh...

I hope to return soon. Once I have a stable job, I will return.

Shipping Prices have gone up!

I know I haven't blogged in so long..

But I'm blogging this to let everyone know that my shipping prices are officially going up as of tonight and through the next few days as I update everything on Etsy.

My shipping prices were originally $4 to $5 (destash and keychains were $4 and handmade pieces were $5) .. well now everything is going to be at least $5 or $5.50! Flat Rate Shipping is now $4.95 and since I mail my orders through the main post office (you know, where all the planes are, yay, planes!) it costs me gas and time and I also buy organza bags, boxes, and wrap everything up before they go out.

I boy nice white boxes and wrap pieces in tissue paper, tie my little "Handmade With Love" tags on the handmade piece, and tie the box with ribbon and sometimes if it requires, buying bubble mailers, but usually post office boxes are usually cheap or nothing at all.

I could leave it at $5, but the $5.50 covers the cost of gas and time being eaten by the distance I have to drive to the post office to post these orders. Not that time is a big thing with me, I love delivering orders, it makes me feel proud and accomplished of making a sale.

Sorry, if anyone is disappointed in this.

I'll keep you all posted on the shipping prices.

I've learned to make wrapped earrings with sterling silver headpins!

I'm very excited. If you watched the flickr or deviantART account of my jewelry designing, you should have noticed the new earrings "New Jade Earrings" .. they are made with sterling silver headpins.

Now, I think they're called wrapped earrings because the top part of the headpin is wrapped around the rest of the headpin? But I'm not sure, whatever they call it, I've been excited. From that earlier custom I did, I made a good profit from it and I decided to make a good investment and got myself some sterling silver headpins and sterling silver French style ear wires.

YES, these are my first pair, so yes, one earring top is a bit longer than the other. Practice makes perfect, right?

Another note, I've re-organized my ENTIRE bead stock and stash. I've re-organized my findings box, my gemstone box, I've put all my glass beads in one bed box with rainbow color co-ordinate (which is even more a pain, I need another box, I have too many colors).

In that beaders bag I take to classes, I used the little boxes for special beads; one box for "Lampwork, Murano, Furnace, Millefiory and Polymer Clay", one box for "Glass Pearls, Freshwater Pearls, and Swavorski Crystals", one box for "Seed Beads, Delicas, etc.", and the las one for all my beading tools. Plus, I've gotten more storage containers, you know those little glad were plastic things, I've used them for my lucite mahong beads and wood beads temporarily. My big bead box is no longer being used, mainly for storage now.

News from the Lady Jinx "Jewelry Hospital"

Just blogging to let you all know that certain pieces were taken down from the Etsy shop a week or two ago ... about 4 to 5 pieces. And for good reasons.

I had a niece who got very angry and jealous at me and went through ALL my finished pieces that were in a special black showcase I got for Christmas, that kept all the Etsy shop pieces safe, she went through them with obviously oily hands from all the acne on her face (seriously, it's bad) and all the toggles got ruined somehow The sterling silver findings survived, but the silver plated toggles and lobster clasps were getting ruined ... it was so bad, I decided to put them in my special Lady Jinx "Jewelry Hospital" and repair them.

They are now in good health and returning, most had returned with silver plated clasps that are better quality than the ones I had, which is strangely odd for them to ruin so fast.

Everything is good now, you'll be seeing them being added over the few days to a week.

New Supplies 3/2/09

Don't you just love cashing in pennies and coins you've said for months at the bank or a coin casher? I do... especially during the time of my situation of no money, and barely enough to keep my Etsy bill low enough so I can pay ... even though I'm always three months late due to no money. But anyways... cashing those coins got me around $18 something dollars and I decided to treat myself.... at Debbie's shop.

Oh, by the way, if you saw one my earlier twitter tweets, you'll notice I said I bought something off of Etsy... well to the right is what I bought. 25 of these little hang tags that are handmade... and say "Handmade With Love" stamped on them. I thought they would be a nice addition to my future sales.

Hand Painted Tea Cup - I want this!

Browsing this hectic and strange late evening after getting all the kids to bed, blah, blah, stuff, stuff, stuff..

I put in "cockatiel" and I came across this. OMG!

You know how much I love my two Tiels, Ash & Kiwi. This tea cup is hand painted and not only is it hand painted and is of a cockatiel, but it's almost exactly like Ash, just the face coloring is a bit different.

$30 ... that would eat most of my money I got from that custom on Etsy, which I'm trying not to use much of and kinda live on it. No job yet.... which makes everything worse.

I wonder if the Etsy seller would haggle a price with me. Or, I could wait till I get a good job and have them custom a cockatiel for me.

Introducting, the Spring 2009 Collection

It's Spring time, well not quite, but Spring is right around the corner and I've been designing for Spring 2009 and after that Bridal custom I did, I really need to step up my game in the jewelry designing industry. So I've started it off with some elegant and soft.

For the beginning of the Spring 2009 collection. Spring is awakening! The trees are waking up from a long sleep, flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing about and new baby animals are coming about Earth. Oh the pleasure of Spring! This beauty is made with lampwork looking glass beads that resemble the many thing of Spring; flowers blooming, grass growing and ice melting from the suns awakening warmth. This and is fastened off with lobster claw clasp which is abour 12mm. This piece would go lovely with a Spring or Easter dress.

My First Etsy Custom Order

Oh yeah! If you haven't been keeping track of me on Flickr or Twitter, I've recently gotten a custom request from someone on Etsy.com.

They originally sent a convo to me on Etsy.com asking if I was making any more of the "Classic Beauty - Ivory Freshwater Pearl Bracelet" http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15755566 and no I wasn't for awhile due to shortage of freshwater pearls and debating whether to stop using them or not, but I said I would do a custom for them.

They asked if they could have six of the "Classic Beauty - Ivory Freshwater Pearl Bracelet" exactly like that. Only changes that were done were the clasps, the ending clasp is smaller than the original, and she was fine with it and sadly, one came out to be 7.5" (pearls were different sizes on the loose string I got from Debbie's shop) and she was fine with that also. So everything worked out fine.

I eventually asked if they were for a wedding by any chance. I got a convo back saying they were for "HER" brides maids. So, I'm like ... GOODNESS! I'm completely honored. Not only is she my first Etsy custom, it's also my first bridal custom. Oh, I do hope my beauties shimmer on her big day and my wishes for her big day go with them :]

I know I said I'm going cruelty-free, which most likely means I won't be using freshwater pearls anymore, and switching to glass pearls. I'm trying to get rid of the rest I have in my designs.

This simple yet elegant beauty was created with a strange elegant thinking of the mind! This piece is created with Ivory, Purple, Navy Blue, Light Blue and Caramel colored Freshwater Pearls and is fastened off with heart shapped toggle which has an antique finish to it. This piece would go lovely with any evening gown!

New crimps and wire means I’m back in business!

Well, today I made a visit to one of the best beading shops I know in my area! I went in there and got exactly what I've been needing for months now, new sterling silver 2x2 crimps! And some new wire as well!

I also got some more of that new wire that came out awhile ago. The Soft Touch wire and got it in .014 diameter and 30ft. of length :]

So basically, yes, this means I'm back in business of making pieces. Now I'm out of sterling silver clasps but I do have my surgical steel ones left. And I can probably make some lobster clasps with the lobster clasp and a jump ring.

Hooray!

Money: Terrible Situation!

As of lately, I'm sure you all have notice no jewelry or even sketches coming from my end of the jewelry designing world. There is a reason for this, a terrible reason.

[This part is very long so I'll shorten it up a bit] On a personal level, I was suffering from what I now call a minor form of Anorexia, dropping from my high school graduating weight of 145 lbs to my weight a month ago 110 lbs, pushing 111 lbs. It all started from my last break-up with my ex boyfriend. I took it so bad I starved myself for two weeks and then it kept tumbling, through depression. I needed control eventually of my life since my life and college was out of control. I started to eat less. My mother was force feeding eventually and now I'm eating much better to where I'm 119 lbs as of today. I'm not proud of this, I'm very ashamed. I have significant damage done though; hair falling out a lot (not bald), low blood pressure & blood sugar (these two are the worse and life threatening), a lot of other problems, but I'm slowly dealing with them. It has taken me a long tough year to get to 119 lbs, since most of the year, my weight constantly dropped from 118 to 112 a lot.

Other than that, I'm recovering slowly. It's the main reason I haven't done any designs at all. I haven't even sketched a single piece idea.

The other reason is my current money situation; I'm litterly broke. I'm fortunate to live with my parents and have them help me out with my vegetarianism, my birds and my personal things I need in life but I need some sort of income to come in. A job.

By the time Christmas is over, I'll be out job-hunting and taking care of major college related things. And hopefully, if I get a job, you'll slowly start to see pieces popping up. But unfortunately, if I don't any kind of money sort coming my way in the next month, I don't know how I'll be able to keep the Etsy shop open. So let's all pray I get a job!

Lady Jinx's Jewelry is going Cruelty-Free!

Note, some of my pieces have been made with freshwater pearls and/or shells. Those were made awhile back.

But..

I've been thinking. You know how leather, fur and wool is taken from an animal? Getting fur or skin from an animal was and is still never pleasant for the animal. It's ripped from them, and sadly, some animals are still conscious or "wake up" while having their skin or fur ripped off of them forcefully. Some animals are trapped, beaten, necks twisted, electrocuted, abused beyond belief, to get the fur/skin off them. Most fur comes from China and other countries who have no animal rights laws. Some fur that comes from China, is sometimes, really someones dog since in that country, they have no animal laws. All this for "fashion". It's basically someone ripping your skin off you without permission, all to make a jacket. A lot of animals are killed for a single jacket.

To my point, most pearls are the same way, except they aren't brutally beaten, instead they are grown and then killed for the pearl. And to make a necklace, that's a lot of sea creatures. I've never been attracted to leather or fur since I was a child, I thought it looked gross, tacky and disturbing to have an animals head hanging from your neck.

So I've decided, no more pearls or freshwater pearls. Only glass pearls and even at that, I have to ask the vendor I get them from to make sure they aren't real. Glass pearls are still very luxurious looking. Shells, probably not no more use from them in my designs.

Since becoming Vegetarian and supporting animal rights and being a cruelty-free individual using products that aren't tested on animals, I thought why not go further with this, into my designs. To be honest, synthetic or fake still looks beautiful. And you can wear it knowing, an innocent animal or creature didn't have to suffer for it.

If you want to learn more, a lot of Anti-fur/skin organizations have articles and research and videos to show where fur and skin really come from. It's very sad, torture for fashion.

I will just not support cruelty to animals in fashion.

Yeah, long time no see my fellow visitors, followers, etc etc.

Sadly, a lot of life and personal problems.

I'm currently updating online profiles and pages that Lady Jinx's Jewelry is with. Some are being re-done. I'm hoping to have them all done by this weekend so I can fully re-open Lady Jinx's Jewelry. The Etsy.com shop is now open, but I'm slowly coming back and getting into the moods again. I haven't made a single piece in months of having the shop on vacation mode.

Temporary Leave of Absence

Sadly, the economy is effecting me as well. It's been a year and a half and I have no stable job to support myself, my new vegetarian diet, buying supplees and making the payments to Etsy.

I'm taking awhile off of Etsy, so I can get a stable job and take care of things being needed taken care of. Those of you who were going to be featured, I will start features back up as soon as I'm back on Etsy.

Mental Health Awareness Bracelet - Story Included

This one, I made for myself to wear all the time, no matter my clothing style. There's a story why I made it.

Some of you may not know what's going on with me personally and some of you may know. I've come to the conclusion I'm now a "we" instead of just a single mind. I believe that I have developed 3 other different distinctive personalities from my past and what's happened to me over the last year with my ex-boyfriend. It's pretty clear that there's something not right with me anymore and I don't feel the same person I once was at the age of 13 years old. But for as long as I can remember, in my head, I've been depressed mostly. I've gone through self-starvation twice now and numerous self harm. I'm trying my best to deal with this while having my college and finding a better job on top.

Whether I have a mental illness, or not, I made this to support the awareness of those who have an illness and to support mental health in general. We should all take care of our minds :)

I'm still the same person behind Lady Jinx's Jewelry though :o)

Boo!

I've had this little guy sitting in my supplies for a month now waiting for the perfect beads to go along with him and I saw them! They go right along with the texture of his body and exact color.

Threw in some orange too.

The bat is ceramic :] Beads are size 11/0 seed beads and size 6/0 Czech glass seed beads, fastened with a "worn" toggle. This necklace is about 30 inches in length.

I made this for myself though. Had to have something to wear this year, since I'm not eating candy any longer :] Bad for your health and teeth.

I was thinking this, while starting up my Gimp 2.4 program just now..

Maybe I can open up a second small shop on Etsy and made shop banners and avatars for sale :o) I still have my Gimp program and all my brushes I've downloaded form deviantART users who posted them for free use with credit to them and various other places I can't remember.. and they look really nice.

I can't make the sophisticated kind, but maybe the cute and simple ones are affordable prices? Say $5 for shop banners?

I don't know. Just a thought. I have to ask around on copyright issues to make sure I can even use those brushes even though they were posted for free use.

Today I feature janegraftondesigns, from Merrillville, Indiana! Here you shall find her interview:

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your shop.

I am a wife and a mother. My husband and I have been married 26 years and we have one daughter who is 22 and a college student.From the time I was a young child I have loved to do creative things. We three girls were encouraged by our creative mother to make things with what we had. She gave us her old catalogs to make paper dolls...much better the regular paper dolls because we could have entire families and as many as we wanted. She gave us fabric and let us sew on her old machine. Then she praised our work. Several years ago my sisters began telling me I should make jewelry and sell it. After their continuing encouragement, I did start, and I was hooked immediately.
I also work full time as the managing editor of a Christian ladies magazine. I have written 7 books, and I am a speaker at national ladies' conferences. I love life and I love using the talents God has given me.

2. How did you come up with the name of your shop?

Originally the name of my jewelry business was Cool Jewels. But a business friend of mine encouraged me to change it to my name...Jane Grafton Designs.

3. What is your favorite material to work with?

I love working with shell, Swarovski crystals, and sterling silver. Nearly every time I go to a bead show I am sure to bring some shell beads home. I just think they are really cool.

4. What is your inspiration?

God through His creation. I love using beads from nature...shell, pearl, stones, etc. and then I look to nature for color combinations. The great creation we have all around us inspires me that God has given me the power to create also.

5. What future plans do you have for JaneGraftonDesigns?

I want to get established as a regular seller on Etsy and I would also like to do "virtual jewelry shows." My home shows have been very successful and I would like to expand them to virutal shows.

Introducing New Line: Fall 2008

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your shop.

I'm not entirely interesting. I love questionnaires and staying up late while listening to my boyfriend snore. I also really adore spending time with my mother. My grandmother was a seamstress - she and my mother taught me how to sew when I was small. I still use my grandmother's sewing machine for a lot of my projects. Something about the sound is very soothing... It reminds me of hiding underneath the cutting table. I starting making bags in the last year of school. After graduating with a BA in Art History, I realized grad school wasn't for me and I wanted to create. It's been a ride ever since.

2. How did you come up with the name of your shop?

I made this photograph while in a photography class in college. The series explored the duality of romanticizing OR sterilizing emotions, what love is, etc. I got the idea off a cereal box proof of purchase. I thought it was interesting enough to get it tattooed on my back, over my heart... and then later decided to use it for my business name - almost as a joke because I could NEVER use barcodes with the nature of limited production items.

3. What is your favorite material to work with?
I love japanese fabrics - always cotton, linen, or canvas. I'm also exploring cotton knits for casual women's wear.

4. What is your inspiration?
If I haven't JUST purchased a pile of fabric, I have to have a really great new music album. People say music moves us - I believe it motivates me physically whether I'm jogging or moving from the cutting table around to the sewing machine. Talking to happy customers is also the greatest inspiration.

5. What future plans do you have for your shop?
I'm constantly building stock. Most of my sales are through Texas boutiques. I would really love to build my shop to where I'm having equal sales online.

By the way, I deleted my recent last post on the jewelry designers block, I'll be re-doing it a bit.

I came up with an awesome idea to help me get more involved in the Etsy community. So here is my plan: Why not get out there and help others get traffic, visitors, etc. while getting yourself some experience in this big blogging thing Etsy sellers have going on? :o)

I made a post, got LOTS of conversations, sent questions, and right now I have 9+ Etsy sellers waiting to be features starting tonight hopefully. I'll be doing two a week for right now.

That list is growing :)

Well, not fully in business. I'm still stressed out over money issues I personally have right now. I'm still out of a job and it's getting harder in Tampa to find one. Any job will do to keep with my beading, my store, supplies, personal needs.. and I mean almost any job at this point.

Sorry it took awhile to re-open. I was shooting for this past Saturday but things were not working out, with rain off and on all weekend long and my current mental status, which sadly, is depressed lately.. for personal reasons, which I may end up sharing with you guys, but I've put all my personal things in a private livejournal. I could really use some support right now.

Anyways.

Lady Jinx's Jewelry is back and re-opening! :)

I've been taking better pictures as well as REMAKING EVERY PIECE! I learned how to properly crimp at this bead class I went to last Friday and now I'm better.

If you all have noticed in a past few days, my shop's items are all hidden from view :o) Why? Simply because tomorrow, hopefully if everything works out ok, I'll be going to a special beading class to learn how to actually use the Crimper tool. I found out I had the wrong one, the Might Crimper, which I have crimp beads for, but don't use them as much.

Well I'll be doing ALL of my pieces over again and they will look so much better ;)

Plus, I'm having a new line coming for the Fall! So keep checking around often this Fall.

My shop should be open again Saturday September 13, 2008!

Lady Jinx's Jewelry = A WHOLE NEW LOOK!

Last night I was hanging around the Etsy forums and posted a topic about banner and avatar advice. I got some pretty good advice, mostly to get a professional to do all the graphics on my shop for me, and I also got a recommendation for a graphic maker/seller.

I ordered up a premade banner/avatar set and she did all the lettering for me :) so now I have a shop banner, avatar, sale avatar and away avatar. It came out like this:

So basically for a mere $5, I got a nice banner and avatar :) This all has made my shop look a lot more professional.

I figured I'd do it for $5 since I don't have time to make a nice clean and professional one myself and my skills aren't as good as they were a few years ago.

But doesn't it look a lot better now? :o)

This is a recently made piece. I never had time to blog it at all, and more pieces are to come.

Anyways, this is a necklace I made for my mom just because I love her and I wanted to make her another piece. She picked out all the smaller beads and I found the pendant and the large heart beads :)

The pendant is made of metal. The large heart beads are made of glass. The spacer beads are a mixture of glass seed beads, metal and frosted glass.

So here we are! Another piece for mom!

Lady Jinx's Jewelry RETURNS!

Yes, I know I've been gone a LONG time. Months really. I'm sorry :o) I've been busy with life, trying to find something in life and I've gotten 0.5% of my life back in order. My weight is back up to about 124/125 lbs and I'm now able to maintain it well enough that it won't fall to 118 like it was for 6 months.

Not to mention Hurricane Fay came around. Bunch of nasty rain. Nothing big. But now, there's another tropical storm hanging around Cuba.

First things first, my Birthday was on August 25th, yesterday. It was pretty good. Went to Japanese style restaurant where they cook the food in front of you.

As for presents. I got a few nice things. A week earlier, I got some new shoes, they're Vans from the Vans store in the mall I go to a lot :o) my feet are happy now, my old DVS shoes were horrible and were so worn out.

I got some lovely 10K gold earrings with my birthstone in them, that my mom bought me :o)

And the BIGGEST gift of them all, was bought by my parents and brother together. Is a new camera! (Picture to the left is the camera itself) This camera is called a FujiFilm Fine Pix Z20, and let me tell you, I'm still playing around with me, learning new things it does. I think I've found them all though.

It's green colored, takes GREAT pictures. Great at close-ups. I'll still use my old digital camera for maybe scenery photography since it does great in good outside lighting.

Plus I got $100 gift card from my brothers girlfriend, I can use the card wherever I want :o) I might invest in some nice beads.

Oh by the way! Here is an updated picture of my current workspace. Well, a better picture :]

Well, other than that, Lady Jinx's Jewelry is currently revamping! And I mean everything! Photos, myspace, deviantART, Flickr, the shop, EVERYTHING! Plus, I'm replacing most of the pictures on my blog here with new ones.

New Mahjong Beads!

I'm glad I saw these at Jo-Ann's last week. I love them too! They are called Mahjong. There from a Chinese game you find on computers called Mahjong Solitaire. It's so much fun and very addicting, so it was for me.

But, they're double holed and are pretty sturdy and don't look like they'll break without a fight :] I don't know what to do with them yet, so I'm putting them away as "Storage" in with my glass beads. They were only $ .97 per strand and I got three strands.

And these beads usually run around from $11.00 to $15.00 so my sale bargain on them was great! I have some plastic fun earrings they could go with so I might just make either a necklace or bracelet out of these :]

I've been gone awhile..

If some of you have noticed, I've been gone and haven't made a single update for about a month now. That's becuase my life has been a little busy. Things have been going on, bad and good.

Right now, my money budget for jewelry is VERY LOW and I'm only spending on low price glass beads for right now. I've been trying to get a job and it hasn't been easy and I still don't have one. I still need a better camera as well, which is my first priority for my money saving, as I use it for my photography as well.

The other night, I got bit by a snake in my yard, ending up in the Emergency Room waiting 4-6 HOURS before I ended up leaving with my finger wrapped, getting two shots (one in arm, one in upper hip/butt cheek, lol yeah, it hurt) and now I'm on anti-biotics in pills for a week, to help keep me from getting any infections from the bite.

I haven't been able to do much as for jewelry since I'm out of ideas and somewhat supplies, but I bought a new beading book so I'll have tons of ideas :] I hope to see much from me soon.

Simple Elegant Green Necklace

Remember how I posted about that shop I found this past weekend?

Well I did buy a strand of some pretty green Czech glass beads since I knew they would go with the New Jade chips I had order and received! I used my new beading wire and came up with this necklace! I love it and it goes with a couple of green shirts I have.

It's heavy but the wire and toggle clasp seem to hold their own in this necklace. Of course, the end part of the wire is a bit showing since chips are hard for my to work with, even with my old beading wire! But I still love it.

I decided to make something for myself again since I don't have much jewelry and I'm tired of constantly wearing the same silver chains I always wear. I love them all but it's the same thing over and over again. Now if I could get some earrings to match this..

Lately, I've been finding new and exciting things to get my hands on as for beading supplies. Other than the natural stone shell beads I found at Wal-Mart for $1.97 each, I found some other things:

I found these beautiful New Jade Chips and bought them from GemstonesAndPearls and I also got a free gift in my shipment, A strand of Kambaba Jasper gemstone beads! The strand I bought in 33 inches and it was surely a great deal for me! I was excited when they came in the mail and it was a fast shipment from New York to here in Florida! Her shop has great deals on surplus beads, so check her out!

I also got a new plastic beading box, which I've put my gemstones in now to keep them separated from my glass beads. It's a great box with easy-to-remove compartments to easily removes beads!

And also, this past Saturday me and my parents were driving around and stopped to have lunch, and ventured off into a dollar store next door and I found some nifty plastic containers that have made good use for me and my tons of spools of wire and stretchy cord. Plus, I found Blue Moon glass beads for $1, and they were actually glass by Blue Moon :) It's amazing what you find in such places.

Plus, we went to the knitting shop for my mom and a employee heard that I bead jewelry and told me about a beading shop a couple of shops down so I checked it out. It was HUGE, not like over sized huge, but it was a good sized beading specialty store. They had a whole corner for seed and bugle beads and another corner for Swarovski Crystal. I got a suggestion from the owner to switch to 22 strand soft flex beading wire. I love it and it works great. Plus I bought some nice Czech glass beads.

Ancient Mysteries

This isn't for sale or anything, but it was a custom piece I kinda did for myself. I'm trying to make myself jewelry that matches shirts that I have and I came up with this funky idea to mix three color beads and came out with this.

It really reminds me of jewelry you've find in ancient civilizations and museums. Maybe back in the stone age possibly! It's a mystery!

About the beads: First of all, I got them at Wal-Mart, yes at Wal-Mart, of all places! They had a craft section with stuff for scrap booking, for baby showers, weddings, etc. And they had a small bead section with plastic beads and some pretty glass beads. At first, I got Crimp Covers from Wal-Mart when I first discovered this area in this store. They were cheaper than going to Micheal's and good quality and a lot smaller than the ones at Micheal's.

I found these while going in the craft section while my parents were looking at something and I was like no way! These strands were almost 25 inches long! Longer than the ones I usually find at Jo-Ann's and a lot cheaper.

I found these three strands for $1.97 each! And they were real and nice quality. They had others too. I was so tempted to buy more but I didn't have much money. But what a great deal, huh? Three strands for $1.97 each and a long strands at that.

I got a strand of each color: brown, white and blue. And they are natural stone shell beads.

Paper Woven Beads

These are paper woven beads that I found last week in my closet while cleaning it out to reorganize it. Believe me, my closet is A LOT more easier to navigate in now. I have a better shelf and everything! And I can actually get my shirts to wear instead of having to make a leap of faith over other stuff.

Anyways! You may of heard of these and you may haven't. Basically what they are is colored paper or paper with designs drawn on them that is woven into a bead. I use plastic straws for a foundation to make the hole and craft glue. I set it out to dry to about 20 to 30 minutes, then go over the entire bead with clear nail polish to protect the bead and let it sit over night to dry. I've used cotton balls, construction paper, plain paper drawn with markers, and even Christmas wrapping paper! These are only ones I made when I was younger. But I've been making new ones lately:

These are my new ones I've made recently. My first one don't have the shiny look to them since they were done when I was a kid, but these ones! Have it on them! Aren't they pretty?

I was thinking of making necklaces out of these and selling them. They make great necklaces for people who like funky looking jewelry or just selling the beads and letting them get creative with them.

They also make great beads for kids to start with instead of plastic big beads which can always difficult to work with. What do you guys think? :)

New Workspace!

Sorry I haven't updated or posted in the blog lately. I've been a bit busy and depressed. And also, my insomniac issues have started coming back slowly.

But! This is my new workspace!

It's not big, but it works for me right now. It's the old folding sides table my parents old type writer used to sit on. My mom suggested it to me. It sits in the very far back corner of my room next to some pillows I have.

My medium size beading tray is on there, which I use to help me organize my beads into a piece and measure it's length and also keep beads from rolling around. My red divider case is on there, it holds my small seed beads and buggle beads and my plastic beads which I use in my stretchy bracelets. My regular beading box is on there, which holds ALL my beads I ave currently, from wood to glass, they're all in there! It also holds my tools I use. Plus small plastic containers which hold tons of beads. And all my stretchy cord is on there as well. As well as my findings box. I have so many findings, spacer beads, charms and clasps they take up so much room in!

My new craft light my mom gave me sits on this desk. It helps A LOT to see details, it's not shown.

There's a plate on the desk right now.. I'm still sorting out seed beads by color.

This desk is small but it works and plus my birds cage is about 4 feet away next to it so I can always talk to him when I'm working on stuff.
